battle of the sexes

The ancient battle has reared it's ugly head in our house. They say to not be competitive with your spouse...but what happens when you are both kinda competitive and then a little contest comes up? You know, like the time Shaun told me I would never, ever beat his high score on this computer game he plays...yeah, well I crushed it. And he hasn't been able to beat it since....just a wee brag there....
Or like the 100 push up challenge when my initial assessment was 8 and his was around 50...bugger...men just have more upper body strength...
All last week, my dear Shaun was talking about how he could run faster than me for a kilometer. And my response was "So what? Give me a challenge...let's go 15!!" So we had this one kilometer "race" all set up for Sunday...we even had a couple of friends rooked in to help time to be fair...but then I got sick and couldn't even think about getting off the couch let alone doing a hard run! Last night, he comes home super wired from work and says he wants to see how fast he can run 1km. I give him my Garmin and say "Go for it!!" It was funny because he sets out in his grey sweat pants and Sketcher shoes...SO NOT running shoes...and he wonders why his legs hurt today...
Anyway, off he goes, around the block and Matthew and I sit on the front step waiting. Here he comes around the corner, Matthew cheering, me not so much (cause I WAS a wee bit shocked he was back so soon)...and Gary Garmin tells me he did 1.01km in 4:00minutes!!
And then he puked on the driveway.
