I had a run to do yesterday. It was 90 minutes. The goal was to do 3-4 x 10 minutes at my goal pace for the half marathon in May.
My goal time is 1:50. This would mean holding a 5:12min/km for the 10 minutes.
Let's just say I have spent the last day and a half re-adjusting my goal time...
That? Was friggin hard, and no way possible for me to hold that for an entire half marathon. Not yet, anyway!! I DID manage to hold 5:20 min/km for all 4 of the 10 minute intervals...This? Would put me at 1:52 and I would be thrilled with that as well.
The best part of the whole run was that I did one of those intervals (the third one) chugging my way UP radio hill...oh yeah baby...the hill that kicked my ass last year...the hill I had to walk a good chunk up last year...the hill that they sneak in the last km of the race...and I forget about it until it I am there...and then I curse the entire way up...but not this year...oh no...radio hill is not going to beat me this year!!!

I keep telling people, success is all in choosing your definitions, and dealing with your expectations. When you consider all the hazards we face, just getting to the start line healthy and ready to rock is a good thing. Getting to the finish under your own steam is success and anything more is cake and gravy. I'm sure you'll pass a bunch of pooped out people on the hill.
