Never say we ain't tough here in Saskatchewan...minus 27; minus 37 with the wind...and I ran my monthly 5km race tonight...me and about 15 other crazy people!!
I have this thing about these runs that I want to do all 12 in the year. No matter what. And all I could hear in my head driving home from work and listening to the radio announcer go on and on about how cold it is, was my dad's voice "You not tough enough?"
The run felt pretty darn good. It was cold but my legs just wanted to go..go..go...did no warm-up, got out of the car, walked up to the start line and GO! We had chip timing tonight! The big leagues, kids, these are the big leagues...but right after the half way mark, my chest was feeling like it was seizing up on me. Almost like the air could not get warm before it hit my lungs. And i could not get enough oxygen in. Was really weird. Slowed down a bunch to try to get a steady breathing rythym and lost the gal I was running with, crappy. Then things started to feel better about the 3.5km mark and I felt like I was on air! Really cold frigid air but you know those runs...something (or someone) is pushing you from behind...you're floating...that was me tonight!
All in all did my 3rd 5km race in 26:38...the fastest one yet!!

woohoo! One thing when it's this cold, the air is that much more dense, so you're getting more oxygen with every breath.
I'm planning to do a run tomorrow, and it it should be -somethingawful.
Did you have icicles on your face? I expect to have a good set of walrus tusks.
WOOHOOOOO!!! YOU THE ROCKSTAR BABY!!! Great job! Good to see I wasn't the only insane one out running in the cold, haha. See, triathletes ARE crazy!
You are such a ROCK STAR!
While you were waiting in your car for the race start I was enjoying the beginning of an evening of self care:) I had just finished a one hour massage and then I went home, threw ALEX on the treadmill for a5 k training run and then I disappeared into the sauna:) I feel much better today for doing that!
yes triathletes are crazy.
Kelly is a triathlete.
therefore kelly is crazeeee.
nice work! that is impressive, considering the weather conditions. Just wait until you can run without 53 layers and ice and snow underfoot- you are going to be a bluuuur!
YAY Kelly!! You are a rockstar!! After reading Susi's blog and then yours, I'm thinking I just have to HTFU and get my business done...
Thanks for the motivation -- but really, would it have KILLED you guys to run on the treadmill instead? Hahahahahaha!!
