Goooooooooooo RED WINGS!!!

Rest day today.
I love the hockey playoffs. The only time I will sit on my arse in front of a television for extended periods of time. We are into the second round..bye bye Calgary!! buh bye Sharks!! I know some of you reading this live in Calgary but I cannot stand Keenan...so I will be a Calgary fan again when he is GONE. We are huge Detroit fans. As in huge. Both my kids sport Red Wings gear, we have serving platters with the logo on them, Shaun has Red Wing golf covers for his clubs, we have a pic of Yzerman hanging in our basement, someone even bought us a toilet seat with Detroit all over it!! I know tacky, it was supposed to be a joke but it didn't fit our downstairs bathroom or else we probably would have used it...I kid you not. My spouse OWNS a signed Yzerman rookie card...it is in our safety deposit box with our friggin wills....GO DETROIT!!! And to add fuel to the fire, I really, really do not like Pronger with the Ducks...OMG die Pronger, DIE!!!! Can't wait until he gets checked into the boards the first time...and wtf is with that goalie for the Ducks? Weird. Is he psychotic? Some serious mental issues happening right there...if you don't follow hockey, take the 2 minutes one night and watch him during the national anthems...that is crazy with a side of crazy!!!

do something that scares you

You know that old advice that you should do something that scares you every day?
Yeah...well I'm doing it today.
I was asked to do a presentation...in front of people...many people...as in public speaking...in front of lots of people...gak.
My knees will be knocking. My heart will be racing. I will be a rock star!! Okay...kidding about the rockstar part but getting up in front of people is not my thang.
I can do this.
My girlfriend called this morning to give me her encouragement and it was this "Try not to notice that they are all looking at you..." Thanks Carmen!!! You are the best friend EVER....She also said to swing by her house afterwards for some liquid therapy. I love my non-triathlon friends.
Anyway...I did get to swimming today. Guess what I bought...A WETSUIT!! Yey! A real wetsuit with long arms and legs and it even says "Triathlon" on the chest. I can't remember the brand name but I am not into brand names so if you are wondering, I have no idea. And holy cow do you float in those things. I have never had a real wetsuit before...I have been using my old (like 20 year old suit...the one I used to waterski in...I know, I am the laughing stock of the tri crowd with my out of date gear...) It was used for only one season and one race. She did not have a great day and has sworn off triathlons....I hope I have some better luck this year in my new-to-me wetsuit!!

i almost FORGOT!!!!!

I was looking at my calendar last night, the big one on my fridge with all the activities for everyone, I turn to May and lo and behold, I have a 10km run this weekend!!
I almost forgot. What do I expect from a 10km run...with all the running I have been doing...I don't really know! My Holy-Shit-I-Did-Not-Ever-Think-THAT-Was-Possible-Goal would be around 50 minutes. And you are thinking, but your best 5km time so far is 25 minutes...this does not make sense!! And I say, well, I seriously feel like I am just warmed up at the 4.5km mark at those little timed events and would love to run that hard for longer. I would be thrilled with 52-53 minutes, my personal best is around 53 minutes and that was at the 10km mark last year at the Regina Half Marathon...not sure if that counts but it WAS a surprise!! Those are the only two I will be happy with.
Got out today for a run. Was a gorgeous morning. I am having to re think my outfits, because I was darn warm today. Can't seem to adjust to this weather very quickly. Was a pretty solid run...4 times 8 minutes at my half marathon goal pace...that pace is becoming engrained in my brain for good. I am still not confident I can hold that for the entire 21 kms. Because I was spent after today. But I have not used my legs for 3 days so was good to be out there. Wanted to make the run totally worthwhile so I spat a big loogie on the lawn of a friend's ex!! Hahaahhahahaaaa!!!!

bad me

Have missed 3 workouts in a row.
Have I been sick?
Nope.
Have I been busy?
Not really.
Have I been tired?
Nah.
Now, hear me out before you start calling me a hack...Saturday I had booked a long-for-me bike ride in the morning. Friday afternoon it was so snowy and cold, the bike ride was called off. When I woke up Saturday morning, it was beautiful!! But still around minus 8...which in my opinion is too damn cold and I really don't want to be hating bike rides this time of year. Yeah...could of got on the trainer, but Luke had gotten up and we were having a nice little breakfast together so the trainer ride did not happen. The rest of the day was shot, because some people (my spouse's relatives) believe we ALL want to attend a kid's birthday party for 5.5 hours on a Saturday afternoon...so annoying...seriously, the cake did not come out until after 7:30pm and I was so antsy to get outta there as my weekend, by this time, was shot.
Sunday came and off to the cabin we go and it is open for business. It was a gorgeous day up in the north and we hung out and ate fire cooked hot dogs and sat in our yard out of the wind and in the sunshine. Loved. It. But no Sunday swim.
Today was supposed to be a recovery ride...from...what? I had an early meeting today and lots going on tonight, so no ride today either.
Oh well.

a very early run

I have a pet peeve with my husband. Okay...I have a few, but the biggest one is that he is not and never has been very good at planning/organizing things. As in he tells me last night as we are going to bed at 10:30...he has to leave for work at 6:00am.
Ummmmm....I have a 90 minute run to do! I have NO TIME to do it other than in the morning!! We negotiate and he can leave no later than 6:30am.
This means I have to be OUT the door by 5:00am. The sun wasn't even up yet. It was still dark. I was kind of grumpy at the start. But it was quiet and I channelled Kara Goucher and it felt amazing! Then I remembered how I love to run in the mornings. The instructions were to just run, don't look at your heart rate, run at your "all day pace". So that was what I did and clipped off 15km in 90 minutes. And I saw Chuck's boy-crush out on his bike so it was a good morning.
In other news, Matthew got his next stripe last night at TKD. Yey! We are off to open the cabin hopefully on Sunday...this is a wee bit early in the year but we have rented it to a friend for 3 months as he is going to school in PA and needs a place to stay Mon-Fri (and when I say rented, I really mean he has agreed to help us put new shingles on this summer so we are letting him stay there...) Next up is a bike ride tomorrow. Please say a small prayer for my toes as we are heading out in the morning and I have only 2 hours to do but tri-buddy Shannon has 4 hours and it is going to be damned chilly.
