Is this Hell?

If you know someone who is naive about having children (like I was), please have them read this. It all started last night. Went to bed in good time to get up for my swim. By the way, the doc says I have "swimmer's ear". Who woulda guessed it? But darn, it hurts like a bugger!! At around 1:00am, I hear "Mom! MOM! Come QUICK!!!!" So stumbling out of bed I go, no contacts, pitch dark, I run (barefoot) to see what's up. I meet Matthew in the hallway and he has tried to make it to the bathroom. But alas, did not. And there is barf all over everywhere and i am in barefeet...do I have to explain? He is crying and apologizing and my heart breaks for him. Strip him down, new pj's, socks etc. Put him back to bed with a pail. I clean up everything and head back to bed. I hear him hurling and gagging for the rest of the night. I sat up with him for most of it, rubbing his back and forehead...the things you gotta do. Even a bit of Gravol did not help. I had two big meetings back to back this morning and I just could not get out of them. I bundle the boys up and take them to daycare and do not say a word about anyone being sick. Obviously, Matthew looks like hell and I tell daycare I will be back at noon to pick them up. I have to make a living and nearly bawled the entire way to work. The first meeting was one of our fund managers and it was 100 questions along the lines of "Why should we keep you?" And ALL I could think about was "Do I smell puke? Did I get it all off? Can these guys smell it?" The second was a family who had sold their farm and needed help with stuff. They had driven a long way into the city (left at 7:30am to make our meeting) so I felt obligated to be there and did not feel right about cancelling at the last minute. Every day....a balancing act.

frustrated...

Did my hour run today. It was an awful run! The only positive was that I tried out my new sports bra, my new neck warmerand my new winter running socks. All were good purchases. The run was slow and tired and heavy legs and I could not get into it. But it is done. I turned the garmin off about half way through as I don't want to know. I am caving and going to the doctor today. My right ear feels like it is going to explode. It has been a week now and I am not prone to ear infections so off to the doc I go to see what's up. I can hardly talk it hurts so bad...which the people at work will appreciate!!

This is why I blog...

I had a lazy, super lazy weekend. I did nothing. Okay, I ran for 30 minutes on Saturday but after that, the most strenuous thing I did was jump up off the couch and yell at the television when that receiver CAUGHT the ball AFTER Manning was supposed to go down in a QB sack...pretty bad, I know. (But seriously, look up the highlight as the athletism and WILL of that player is truly incredible!!) So this morning I am reading my fave blogs, you know who you are cause I comment on your efforts...and I don't want to be lazy anymore!! AND I got a phone call (a PHONE CALL...not an e-mail, not a text message) from a tri-friend wondering where I was at swimming on Sunday. Good thing I have some people looking out for me as there is no way I could do this all by myself. A big fat OOPS. But I am now ready to get back at it again. So a run tomorrow for an hour, swim on Wed morning, bike ride Wed night, bike maintenance course Thurs night...and that is all I have looked at so far. And what does a girl do when she is feeling like she needs some motivation? That's right, she goes SHOPPING!! New goggles, new bathing suit, new running bras, new socks and a new neck warmer. Here we go...

It's 9 am and everyone is still sleeping!!

I hate getting in the habit of not doing things...like running this week. I knew last night I was not going to feel like going this morning so I was making deals with myself left and right. I put all my gear out on the couch so I wouldn't have the excuse I could not find something. If it was any colder than minus 25, I wasn't going outside, I would get on the treadmill....I checked the weather this morning and it was "only" minus 22. Interesting how perspectives change!! Felt like running the bridges this morning so I drove to the Roastery and started from there. JP had said do not do more than 30 minutes just to get back into the groove. So I did 30 minutes and 12 seconds!! It felt really good and I did not see my HR get up over about 140. Felt like I could have ran forever. Nice and easy and slow...perrrfect. Got back to the Roastery and grabbed a coffee...as this was one of my deals to myself, a small reward for getting up and out there. Saw GP and Bruce who politely asked me to join them, but I have learned to not intrude on a couple of buddies. So got home and everyone is still asleep as I enjoy my coffee and read the news and write on this blog. A good start to a Saturday!!

Coming out of the fog and a new look

I have done nothing this week wrt training...just trying to feel better is all I have been after...drinking lots of water, getting lots of sleep. I hate drugs and have to be deathly ill (or in labour) before I will take them. I have found that smarties are the perfect comfort food. I love smarties and an orange float when I am sickly. Anyway, I am going to try to run tomorrow. I have a 2 week pass to a local gym so onto the treadmill I go. Aiming for 30 minutes. Will see. Not sure about swimming on Sunday as my ear still hurts and maybe I could forego the swim for a bike ride. Looking forward to getting back at the routine next week. Keep y'all posted!! Going to get highlights today...I have also decided I have more fun when I am blonde...so looking to really lighten things up and pamper thyself a bit. Also heading out to the ballet with the girls tomorrow...cougar sightings are expected in the next 36 hours in downtown Saskatoon...
