he shoots...he SCORES!!

Matthew's first goal last night at his hockey game! It was a beaut. Came in over the blue line all by himself, stick handled like a pro, shot it through the goalie's legs! Remember, this is Novice hockey, so think slooooowwww motion. He's number 15; this is from a few days ago: http://www.youtube.com/user/KellyB883#p/f/1/M6KPUEvwwvQ (ignore the mom's chatting in the background!!)
And Shaun missed his first ever goal.
And he was pissed that he missed it.
A kid on the team lives with his grandparents. We haven't really gotten the story on where his parents are but they never ever come to the hockey rink. It is always the grandparents...who are super grumpy by the way, about having to raise this precious little boy. He really is a sweetheart and has taken a shine to Shaun. He only wants Shaun to tie up his skates and asks Shaun to watch him evey game. He shows up Monday, crying...sobbing! Shaun asks "What's up?" He says he needs his skates sharpened and his grandpa won't do it for him. He keeps falling down and he is super upset and begs Shaun to find the hand skate sharpener. (that is obviously my name for it, it is some kind of a stone that you can do quick sharpening jobs on the bench with...) Shaun takes a look at his skates and asks if they have EVER been sharpened...the kid says he doesn't know. I was almost in tears. What the hell is with some people!!?? If you are going to take the time to bring your kid to the rink, then give them the best chance at doing their best at what they love. It is so obvious these people are trying to discourage this kid. He LOVES hockey! He is the best player on the team! It is such a shame. He only comes to about half the games/practices. I was very annoyed and when Shaun asked the grandpa if we could get the skates sharpened at the pro shop, he just shrugged "whatever". So f*ck it. We each grabbed a skate off his feet and Shaun ran them down to the pro shop....and missed Matthew's first goal!!
But he scored a second one about 5 minutes later...the kid was on FIRE!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!!

Very cute video! Pisses me off that people have kids, then don't take care of them. Pity we don't have a form of birth control that can be implanted permanently at puberty, and removed only upon marriage and contracts regarding child care.

Awesome congratz on the goal!! Glad you were able to help your son's friend out. That is sad about his family, I guess hockey is his escape. Cute video

Gratz to your little dude on his first goal. The first one is always special and you never forget it.

Shaun is a stand-up guy for stepping in to help that young fellow.

Shaun is a great guy! What a noble gesture, taking the little guy under his wing like that -- if there was ever a good reason to miss a first goal, it is that! :) :) :)

That is terrible that the grandparents are taking out their frustration on the little guy -- thank goodness there are people like you guys in the world. It takes a village to raise a child.
