do you know what I admire...?

I admire those people who cannot swim but come out anyway and give it their best!
I had FUN on Sunday as my debut as a coach. And I use the word "coach" very loosely because I did more standing around and visiting than coaching.
Coach Chris would say "What is that lane doing for their pace times?" I would have no idea. So I would ask "What are you guys doing for your pace times?" And they would tell me and I would tell Chris. He would then ask "Well how much rest are they getting?" And I would ask "How much rest are you getting?" And they would tell me....etc...etc. He told me to pay attention a bit better...I found it hard to see bad pool etiquette and have to tell them! Like the gal who came in late and was doing her own thing. Had to ask her to stop and wait for the lane and jump into their set. Also had to remind a few about the direction the lane goes. I mainly hung out in lanes 1 & 2 just encouraging them and calling out their start times. I even moved a guy up a lane because he was swimming circles around the lane. There was one gal who was learning to swim. As in taking a few strokes, and then grabbing the wall for a break and then taking some more strokes. She could do breastroke all day but is having quite a time with freestyle! So I spent a good chunk of time just telling her the basics of swimming...gave her a couple of drills to work on...and asked her to do 50's rather than the 100s as she was really struggling with. Chris' advice was to keep them moving, pay attention to their times, get the lane together at the end of each set so they start together. It was fun to get a different perspective at the pool! There is a guy that comes out on Wednesdays with us and he walks about 12 meters down the pool, then swims to the wall...turns around and walks halfway and then swims to the wall. But you know what? He comes out every single Wednesday and he is so keen and eager to swim...I LOVE IT!!!
Today was a recovery run. And recovery it was. My legs were tired today from that long run on Saturday. Nice and slow and easy and just plodding along. Some stretching afterwards.
Happy Monday!!

I've sometimes suspected coaching, especially in a group situation, is much harder than it looks. Any bozo can stand there yelling, it's yelling the right things at the right times that's hard. To say nothing of all the invisible prep work.

the comments that were going around on Sunday were all positive, i heard one person say that it was the best Sunday swim yet, so thanks for your time and effort to make the workout better for everyone.

I've always wondered about your grp. Maybe I missed it in a previous post, but is this a Masters grp? Tri(swim) Club? Or somthing else? I wish I could swim with you guys/gals.
