Brainfreeze 10km Run Report

Ugh.
It was a beautiful day here in Saskatoon! Above zero temps, sunny...gorgeous. The bad thing about a day like today, is that the trails full of snow, get kind of soft and in some spots very, very slippery. Not all that great for running a Kelly Fast 10km!! Even if it would have been 5 degrees colder, the trails would have had just that much more grip.
We started out under the Broadway Bridge and there was lots and lots of people out which was great. The run was a fundraiser for the University Cross Country Team so lots of cute, young runners out in their Huskie gear...
Back to the run...the first km was hard. Too hard. My legs felt heavy, my breathing was laboured, I felt awkward. I looked down at Gary Garmin and he told me my pace was 5:07...holy no good!! Slow down!! The footing was okay but I was slipping a bit now and again which was frustrating. Got to the 2nd km and took a peek at Gary Garmin and he told me my pace was around 5:11...holy no good again!! What am I doing? It's a beautful day and I just feel like running!! But I slowed down considerably just to save myself for those last 2 kms. The next 5km were steady and they felt okay. Not the best but okay. I had a headache from being up all night. One of my sleepless nights where I toss and turn the entire night. The night before I had been up with Luke all night so two nights with no sleep makes a tired body.
The last 3km were spent trying to keep up with another gal. She pulled me along the entire 3km. There were a ton of people on the paths so we were having to slow and dodge pedestrians. The footing across the Broadway Bridge was horrendous. I couldn't see the path as it was in the shade so I would look up and then down and my eyes could not adjust in time. I literally tip toed across...walked a good chunk of it...so Gary Garmin told me my end time was 58:07.
Will be honest, a bit disappointed in this as my head beat me before it even started. I was super tired...had a headache...just could not get my head into the run at all.
Good thing we are only in February!!

Tired. Headache. Not into it. Dodging pedestrians. Poor, slippery footing. And *still* done in 58 minutes. Wow.
