Today was a day for mile repeats. The instructions were to run 3 x 1 mile at my half marathon goal pace. The secondary instructions were to try to do them on a track. I have never done a "track workout" so thought it might fun and interesting to go to a different setting and do a run!
Not so.
I got up today in lots of time and the weather forcast was minus bloody hell. So I went back to bed a bit more convinced I should try a track workout. I was wondering why I would do a run like this in such controlled conditions when in reality, I will be running outside in the cold with lots of layers through the snow. Would it not be better to practice your goal pace in the conditions you will be running in? Yet another question for Coach Justin. I read other's blogs and workouts and it just sounds so hardcore and cool to say "my track workout today was...blah, blah, blah..."
Off to our one and only indoor track. I have never really liked it in there, I have always found it dry and it is only a 200 meter track so you are rounding a corner, like, every few seconds...it feels like. I do a little warm up, read the instructions, what lanes are for who...walkers, fast joggers, slow joggers etc. Time for my very first indoor mile!! GO! Started Gary Garmin and then tried to think about how many laps that is...better just watch Gary. Got to about 10 minutes and 45 seconds and Gary tells me I had only ran 1400 meters. WHAT!!! And it felt pretty good!! Big let down.
And my left leg was bugging me from running in one direction the entire time. So I changed directions to start the second one...I just figured if I ran in the walking lanes, I would be coming up behind people and could easily move over and run by...not so. Got yelled at a few times. So I moved to the outside lane and did not realize that the wheelchair racers had started. The sign had not said anything about time limits and when other groups would be starting...so I got yelled at by them too!!!
F*ck it.
Went home.
