breakthrough...

I feel like I had a major breakthrough with my running today.
I took Justin's coaching advice and did my last long run before the big day...30km. There was some debate at Wednesday swim between a couple of gals also headed to Boston as to whether or not I should do that much, 2 weeks away. One is injured and has very little running under her and the other is very vocal about her opinions on marathon training!
Let's just say, since Wednesday, I have totally been second guessing my training schedule. AND my new runners gave me a blister this week so kind of not looking forward to 30km and a blister.
So I sent Justin an e-mail with my (their) concerns. His response was pretty to the point and went a little something like this...
Are you hurt?
Injured?
Sore?
As of today?
If the answer is NO to all of the above the you really need to get one more long run in before the 19th. You have over 2 weeks to recover and that is plenty of time. Your schedule for the next two weeks is very light. You need to get that run in.

Well then. Nuff said. I really, really hope he is right!!! So I went out today and ran the 30km. 6:00min/km average pace!!! OMG!! Where the HELL did that come from? And it felt GREAT! Average HR was low-ish!! As in a steady, looong run...Okay, so the last 20 minutes f-ing sucked, but still....this is AWESOME for me!!! And I did the ENTIRE run aaaaaall by myself...
I THINK I AM READY!!
Of course, knocking on wood that everything falls into place the next two weeks and the run gods are kind to me on the 19th. Today was a bit of a learning lesson as well...today was definitely the warmest day I have ran in for a long time...I stopped twice to fill my bottle with water, once at my office building and once at a retirement home on Radio Hill...I was desperate for water and knocked on the window until some ole gal came over with her walker and let me in. She was great and directed me to the coffee station where there was a jug of the precious H2O. I need to drink LOTS. I had only taken one gel but did not feel that bad nutrition-wise. I think I can DO this. Justin told me once that running a marathon is lots of confidence in knowing you can get through those last 10km. The best marathoners are able to turn off a switch and just run those last few kms. We shall see very soon if I have a switch!!!

Kelly, I am so proud of you -- you have worked hard for this, and cranking out that 30km run shows that you deserve to be there at the start line. :)

Awesome run Kelly, your coach knows what he's doing. You're going to do so well in Boston with that added confidence. I'm looking forward to it!!

These coaches know what they're doing sometimes better than we do ourselves! Right now I'd be tres happy with 3K at that pace.
